East Newport Cycle Speedway Club had a very busy weekend, on Saturday 4th April they travelled to Southampton to compete in the first round of this years Junior League GP followed by a SWL home match against Exeter Aces.

First up was the under 8's Sean Bennett, Nicky Goward, Bradley Davies and Eistyn Lewis. Sean Bennett recorded his first A Final victory and on this showing it shouldn't be the last of this campain. There were some other very good performances by Craig Williams, Ryan Davies, Tudor Combes, Ethan Lewis, Callum Goward and Anthony Oliveira in the under 10's, Adil Mitha, Khalid Mitha, Naadem Arbaaz and Adam Bennett in the under 12's, Josh Davis, William Oleveira, Scott Clark and Louis Harvey in the under 14's, Ryan Lewis, Ryan Dumayne and Dan Bock in the under 16's and the only girl rider Laura Bennett.

A spokesman for the Club Said "All 22 riders gave it their all and with them coming home in an impressive 3rd place the future looks bright for the Go-ride/Club-Mark Welsh Club, and with riders returning for the next GP at Exeter on April 25th we hope that we can achieve at least 3rd place or even better.

Then on Sunday 5th it was South West action, as the East End Club raced their first home fixtures of the season against Exeter Aces in three very entertaining matches, first up was a Division 1 encounter and with the home side using 2 riders who only took up the sport a month ago, put in a very workman like performance to come out winners by 90 - 87.

Scores

  • Rob Absalom 11+1
  • Ryan Lewis 8
  • Scott Clark 1
  • Ryan Hughes 16+2
  • Mike Rice 12+3
  • Neil Power 14
  • Nigel Clark 15+1
  • Nicky Evans 13+1

Then it was the turn of the Combination side, even though it look as if the Aces won the match very comfortably 46 - 34 the racing was closer than the scoreline reflects, the only downside in this fixture was an Injury to East Newport's Josh Davis who took a nasty fall in his second ride [[[&]]] had to withdraw from the meeting.

Scores

  • Colin Wildy 7+1
  • Ethan Lewis 9
  • Josh Davis 1
  • Dan Bock 10+1

Then finally it was the turn of the Conference side and what a match this turned out to be with the lead changing hands on many occasions. Exeter ran out 78 - 72 winners, but with man of the match 10 year old rider Adam Bennett in fine form [[[&]]] two regular high scoring riders unavailable things can only get better for the conference side this season.
