East Newport Cycle Speedway Club started their 2010 South & South Wales campaign against last Seasons Division one Champions Hosrpath Hammers, on their well prepared circuit.

The first of three matches against the Oxford side, on a very cold Sunday, was the Division One match.  The East Enders gave a spirited team effort against a strong home team.  Man of the match Matt Davis along with Ryan Hughes, Rob Absalom & every other team member put up a great display fighting for every point on offer and showed the home team that they had a battle on their hands, before going down 93 points to 86.

Next up was the eight heat Combination Match.  Man of the match, Captain, Josh Davis`s score was restricted by a fall in his second ride after a great dive by the young East Ender resulting in him being legged off.  The remaining three East End riders, Ieuan Payne, Ethan Lewis & Khalid Mitha battled hard but have gained a lot from this match which will stand them in good stead for the future.  Final score, 52 Horspath  28 East-Newport.

The final action of the day was from the Conference League.  With the season starting off so badly, last year, losing the first 3 fixtures, the team was in no mood for a repeat performance. Man of the match, Aaron Hughes was in great form scoring a maximum and was well backed up by Louis Harvey (British Under-13 Individual Champion), Dan Bock and Ryan Lewis.

The final score being 67 - 81 to the Welsh outfit.
