East Newport Cycle Speedway Club were defeated for the first time at home this season to current South West Division One leaders and favourites for the league Horspath Hammers.
 
All of the East Enders gave 100% effort on the well prepared circuit, and the scoreline of 81 - 97 does not reflect how close the racing was.
 
Two of the Hammers riders Mike Morgans and Mark Carmichael recorded fine maximums, and would have been joined by team mate Mark Boaler but he was defeated by young East End rider Aaron Hughes in the final heat of this fixture.

Then it was the turn of the u18 Conference league match, both East Newport and Horspath youngsters looked evenly matched on paper. The lead changed hands several times before the East End outfit ran out winners  79 - 69 to record their 2nd victory in this seasons Conference league.
