Go-Ride/Clubmark East Newport Cycle Speedway Club were proud to host the 2009 Welsh Individual Championships at Senior and under 16 level sponsored by Halfords.
 
With so many riders entering both events there was a need to have qualifying rounds to get the 16 finalist.
 
The under 16's which was last raced for back in 1995 was won by Poole's Ben Mould with 20 points, 2nd place went to Horspath's Mark Carmichael with 19 points and 3rd place went to East Newport's Ryan Lewis with 14 points, after a run off with team mates Aaron Hughes and Jack Turner.

Then it was the turn of the Senior finalists and it came down to the last race of the day heat 20 to determine who would be crowned Welsh Champion, with Mark Carmichael on 16 points on gate 1, fast starting Jack Harold on 2, defending Champion Ben Mould on 3, and Colin Simmons on 4. Mark lead from start to finish to become Welsh Champion and with Ben coming home in 3rd place found himself in a runoff with Neil Power and Chris Davies for 2nd and 3rd place respectively. In the runoff Ben came home in in first place followed by Neil then Chris.
 
With a lot of these youngsters riding in there first Welsh Championships the future of Welsh Cycle Speedway looks to be in very good hands.
